Here are some reporting from the Associated Press, about Obama first actions as the leader of the party.
"The campaign also announced that the DNC will no longer accept donations from lobbyists and political action committees, to comply with Obama's campaign policy. Party officials say they expect the DNC's staff to quickly expand to run an aggressive general election campaign."
"By keeping Dean as party chairman, Obama ended up taking sides in a long-running dispute between Washington-based Democratic Party leaders and state party officials. Although Obama campaign officials have expressed concern in the past that the party did not have enough money, Obama shares Dean's goal of building the party from the ground up, even in states where Republicans dominate."

I really like to see this -- it shows that Obama (as I hoped he would be) is likely to be a very good person to have at the top of the ticket. Is he going to win Mississippi? Of course not. But right now the former governor - a democrat - is leading in the race for the senate seat. If Obama really does run that 50-state strategy and (at his behest) the DNC spends resources in MS, we may yet take that senate seat. I like it. I'm not putting money on winning in MS, but then I wouldn't have expected to win in Montana or VA last cycle, and look what happened there.
Finally, if nothing else, I like playing offense. Make the RNC and McCain spend time and money defending their strongholds. We've been playing defense too long.
