Steele, a former Maryland lieutenant governor, is the first African American to win the office of RNC chairman.So, if you are a Republican, you can literally say anything you want. I mean, you can come off of 8, or perhaps 30, years of completely controlling he national discussion, and make a comment like this. Maybe the economy and our national security and our image abroad and our progress in science and our civil liberties are not all in the shitter because of Republican rule--maybe that would have happened anyway. I guess. But message? Being defined? Are you kidding me?
He vowed to dispel public perceptions that the GOP is “a party unconcerned about minorities, a party that’s unconcerned about the lives and dreams of average Americans.”
“For so long we’ve allowed the Democrats to define us. We’ve allowed the media to define us,” he said. “And so it’s important for us to be able to establish with clarity what we believe.”
It would be like Tim Kaine saying, "For so long we've allowed Hollywood and the academics to paint Democrats as unpatriotic."
