38 Million. Damn.
That's more than watched the Oscars or the Opening Ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics (but a small fraction of the 97 million who watched Super Bowl XLII). It's almost double the number who watched Kerry's nomination speech in 2004. I suspect that it's more an indication of the "enthusiasm gap" than anything else -- it's hard to imagine too many truly undecided voters taking the time to tune in. Quite a night.
