Corrupt Democrat "Dollar Bill" Jefferson was handed his hat by the voters of LA-02. This is a little stunning, since IIRC, Jefferson staved off a primary challenge, and his district has a PVI of D+28. It may be the bluest district in the country. And they just sent an unknown Republican (a community organizer!) to the House.
Ordinarily, you hate to lose a seat. But if you're going to -- this is the way to do it. And fortunately, it seems pretty likely that we can win it back in 2010.
More and better Democrats. Emphasis on the "better."

Were any other incumbent D's unseated?
Nick Lampson (sp?) of TX-22 lost; he was the guy who took DeLay's old seat (very conservative district). Also, the faux democrat who took Foley's seat and then got in a sex scandal of his own. I forget his name. There may have been a couple of others.
Net, the dems seem to have picked up 21 seats.
