Conversation with James

I'm not sure what the deal is with Sally & Me. She hates me. So I wanted to put this up, but not necessarily on my more public blog.

WARNING: This message includes the musings of 14-year-old boys and sexuality. Not appropriate for those who would wish to remain uninformed.

Introduction: James is talking about some discussion with his friends about rape, statutory and otherwise. It appears the thrust of the conversation was that a woman could not rape a man because the man would, by biological necessity, be willing.

Dad: Well, it is one thing to be aroused; it is another thing to choose to have sex with someone.

James: True.

Dad: For example, let's say that a male teacher is tutoring a girl in your class and makes a pass at her. Maybe she is a little flattered but a little uncomfortable. He suggests they have sex, which she isn't sure whether she wants to or not, but she allows him to have sex with her. They continue to have this kind of contact for a view months until someone discovers it. Would that be rape?

James: Oh snap. That's really hard. I guess probably because you said she wasn't sure whether she wanted to and in those cases I error on the side of not allowing it.

Dad: Right, and that's the law. Because a 14-year-old can't consent to having sex with an adult. Now, let's say there is a female teacher--do you have any attractive teachers?

James: (immediately) oh yeah, for sure. My math teacher for one.

Dad: Okay, well let's say she is tutoring a boy in math and starts to come on to him and the same thing happens as with the girl. Isn't that the same thing.

James: Well, no, because with the girl you said she wasn't sure if she wanted to.

Dad: Well, if this teacher started rubbing your shoulders and suggested that you and she went off into another room how would you feel?

James: Awkward.

Dad: Awkward but you would go?

James: Oh definitely.

Dad: You don't think you would have second thought about it and feel weird about it?

James: Dad, she's really hot. I mean, seriously, she is very hot.

Dad: Okay, bring this coffee in to your mother.

Epilogue: He is completely full of shit. There is zero chance that he would not be conflicted over a situation as I described. But to paraphrase Rick James from the Chappelle Show, "Testosterone is a hell of a drug."
