Appended to a heartwarming story about a plucky bunch of college seniors landing the FLOTUS for their commencement speaker is this tid bit:
The president plans to speak at Arizona State University on May 13, the University of Notre Dame on May 17 and the United States Naval Academy on May 22.
Seriously? Obama's going to speak at ASU's commencement? Oh snap! Take that John McCain!
'Course, it makes good electoral politics, because AZ is purpling, and would have been a top-tier target if it hadn't been McCain's home state. So Obama may well be looking towards it with an eye to 2012. But still...

Yes. It is good politics. If the Democrats can win the hearts and minds of the West then they win for a generation.
Policy wise, though, I'm not sure that happens given the libertarian streak that is so strong among independents here.
